10 Things To Do The Day Before Your Wedding

Happy Valentine’s Day all! There are some very lucky ladies getting married on the most romantic weekend of the year so here’s a few last minute tips before you walk down the aisle to the rest of your life.

1. Set Your Bedtime..

..and stick to it. It is very easy to get caught up in excitement but you need at least 6-8 hours of sleep tonight so plan your day accordingly. This will not only make you feel rested for your big day, but will also eradicate any puffiness in your skin. Tomorrow you need to be as fresh as possible (and who doesn’t love an early night!)

2. Get Your Girls

Call your bridesmaids / best girls and make sure they are free for you this evening. Tell them all to prepare an hour or two’s worth of giggles, games, pictures, films and anything you need to de-stress and have some fun. It is the night before your wedding after all so take LOTS of photos, you will want to remember this night! Your girls know you better than anyone else so they will know what to do.

Laughing for absolutely no reason..

3. Meet Your Planner

At this point you are probably thinking of everything that could/ would/ has gone wrong, however having a meeting with your planner just to tie off all loose ends will put you at ease. Everything is in their hands now, so push it all aside and give her a list of 3-5 people to contact if something goes wrong (and make sure you are not one of them). Your planner is there to help you through this day so just by having a little chat, you’ll soon realise there is nothing to worry about it (even if there is).

4. Stop The Social Activity

This is where you cut yourself off from the world…no Facebook, no Twitter, no Instagram no anything. You want this night to be about you, you want to enhance all the anticipation of you walking down that aisle and all your guests seeing you for the first time. Constant status updates will ruin this. Speak to your nearest and dearest and leave it at that.

5. Write Him A Letter

Write your soon to be wedded half a letter. You are about to start the rest of your life with him, so write down everything you are feeling and get somebody to give it to him before he goes to bed. Let him know how excited you are, because chances are, he is feeling a little nervous at this point. Add a small note to be opened in the morning, maybe with a gift. It will heighten all the anticipation for the big day.

6. Put Eye Cream On

Get some of your regular eye cream and put it on under your eyes as you sleep. This will help alleviate puffiness and get rid of bags, making your face as wedding ready as ever! Here comes the bride and all….

I am only pretending to be asleep

I am only pretending to be asleep

7. Bath And Facemask

Get an energising face mask and some sensual bath salts, go and relax; pamper yourself tonight; have a bath. Put on some gorgeous music, put your phone away, add some candles, bubbles (bath not alcoholic)and just breathe….

It is really quite hot in here

8. Step Away From The Booze

Don’t drink any alcohol today, just have water. Your skin will feel better, you won’t feel bloated and that dress will just fall onto you. The day will be heavy enough without having to nurse a hangover. The only drink other than water allowed, is a quick energy shot tomorrow..go all out and have a latte!

9. No Contact

As your bedtime approaches, this is the time you cut off contact with your beau. Let him have some time to himself to relax and wait for tomorrow, you want him to be more excited than your guests, so don’t let him know what you are doing, not to mention, you don’t want to know what he is doing either. Let tomorrow be the first time you speak to each other!

10. Relax And Have Fun

Make this day something to remember, it is your last as a single girl!

Happy Valentines Day all

Bridal Beauty- Top 20 Dos and Don’ts

We all succumb to the stresses of wedding planning, which may lead to certain aspects being overlooked or left to the last minute…here are some top dos and don’ts and remember you are the number one priority on this day…let everything else suffer!

Top Dos and Don’ts
Young woman looking at split ends

1. Don’t get a haircut/ colour the week of your wedding
You’ve heard of hair salon mishaps; hair turning green, sneezing and having hair half the length you wanted it etc…well what is to say it wouldn’t happen to you? Why would you even risk that! Book a hair appointment at least a week or two before your big day, this way you leave time to remedy any mishaps. (although if you sneeze and half your hair gets cut off..not sure there’s a lot you can do in a week!) This time also allows for your colour to settle etc.

2. Don’t Change your Hair Colour
Slight extension to point 1 but if you are a blonde or a brunette, don’t suddenly turn into the other. You want to look like yourself on your big day! (And who knows what the other colour will look like)

Girl Drinking Water

3. Do Drink More Water
Start increasing your water intake from about 6 months prior to the big day. You want your skin to glow and your eyes to sparkle and that doesn’t happen without preparation! This should be both bride and groom, you don’t want to look gorgeous and glowing only for the other half to look grey and ashen! Fill those bottles!

bg-wax

4. Don’t Wait to Wax
Don’t leave your waxing until the last minute. It always takes at least 24-48 hours for redness and swelling to go down. Make sure you leave enough time between a bright red face and your first wedding event.

5. Do Book in Advance
Make sure you book your mani/ pedi appointments as far in advance as you need to. The last thing you need to be stressed about is trying to find a last minute manicurist. Book for at least 3-5 days before you need to do anything important with your hands. For example if your wedding events start on the Weds or Thurs; have your nail appointment on Sunday/ Monday, to allow the pain to subside, ( and to get used to your new nails if they’re not real).

Spa Resort

6. Don’t Have a Facial..
..the week of your wedding. You should definitely plan a course of facials to allow a deep cleanse for your wedding, but starting at least 3 months prior to your big day and ending at least a week before your big day. Facials tend to pull out all the toxins from your skin and in doing so may cause unsightly rashes and breakouts…not the look you were going for? Plan ahead!

tammer__1242841176_4939

7. Do Test your Tan
If you’re having a spray tan/ using fake tan, do have a test run. Visiting your spray tanner before your ‘real’ spray tan could save you some streaky embarrassment. If you are happy with the service and it’s even and streak-free, then book a full spray tan 2-3 days before the big day.

Taking Selfies

8. Do Take Trial Photos
When you are having your make up trial done, make sure there is somebody there to take photographs of you after the makeup has been applied. This is the best way to ensure you are happy with your overall look. (If your MUA says no..I’d probably look for another one..)

thumb

9. Do Choose your Perfume
Many people will be sitting very close to you today, hugging you, congratulating you etc. you want to smell good. Choose a perfume to match your ‘look’ for the day and pre spray your outfit the night before the big day, that way if you sweat it off your skin, it’ll still be on your clothes. Avoid spraying your clothes on the day, as you don’t want perfume blotches on the dress!

untitled

10. Don’t Drink Wine…..Whaaaaaat?!
As difficult as it may be, in the weeks leading up to the big day, try and avoid red wine or dark coloured drinks; coffee, coke or otherwise. These are very colouring and abstaining these for a short amount of time may help your gleamers gleam to their whitest. If you’re undergoing tooth whitening treatment then this is a definite no no! (Otherwise whitening strips help, try Crest)

salt

11. Avoid Salty Food
Salt has the amazing ability to hold more than 50 times it’s weight in water (or so I read)…now imagine that in your body…I think I’ve made my point. Avoid salty foods the week before your wedding and remain bloat free!

693206b97e9df2b167d93251a03fd144

12. Do Put Down the Straighteners
Every hair stylist’s worst nightmare is pre straightened hair. I know you think you’re doing us a favour by helping..but really you’re just making our job impossible. You want big, gorgeous, fluffy curls? That won’t happen if your hair has been trained to be straight! Leave your locks!

Not that I get angry about this or anything…

13. Don’t Condition
On the same note as the above, don’t put conditioner on your hair the day of your events, it makes for difficult styling. Unconditioned hair will hold better and style better. Your hairstylist should request this anyway, but if in doubt, don’t condition..it’s always the better option.

straps-on1-300x300

14. Don’t Wear your Bra
You heard right! But I’m talking about before putting on your dress..be freeeee. Wearing a bra seems harmless whilst you’re getting your hair and make up done etc..however just lounging in your bra can cause unsightly red marks; straps or otherwise which may not be visible under your pyjama top..but will be very apparent in your strapless dress. Lose the bra girls, let your girls be free!

Brides-touch-up-kit

15. Do Touch Up
It doesn’t matter how good your make up artist is, there is always a need to touch up. Especially those of us sitting under mandap in front of a giant fire pit..we’re going to sweat and we are going to be licking our lips. Pre plan a touch up kit with your make up artist and buy the pieces they are using on your skin. Ask them to suggest best ways to touch up and then brief your maid of honour/ sister/ bridesmaid/ mum…anyone who you trust enough to tell you when your blusher is dripping off!

crying-eyes

16. Don’t Cry Your Makeup Away
You’ve spent far too much money on your face to cry it all off. Asian weddings see a lot more crying than most..no really, there’s an entire section of the wedding dedicated to crying. This is where you need to carry a tissue and touch it to your tear duct or outer eye corner and let the tears flow..just into the tissue! (Sorry grandparents..no tears today!)

very-long-eyelashes-03s

17. Do Practice Wearing Falsies
If you don’t wear them often, practicing wearing false eyelashes are a big must. You don’t want to not be able to open your eyes on your wedding day or turn into blinky mcblinkerson! If you can’t handle the weight of eyelashes, your make up artists will be able to suggest alternative ways to give you lustrous lashes, but they’ll need some notice. So get to a drugstore and pick some up!

18. Don’t Change Anything!
By anything, I mean, pills, detergent, make up, cream, facewash, foundation…literally anything! stick to what you are used to. The last thing you want to do is have a reaction to something new!

Sleeping-Woman

19. Do Make Time to Sleep
As your wedding day fast approaches, being able to sleep is becoming a rarity. Whether it be nerves or stress keeping you up at night, start yourself into a bedtime routine from a few weeks prior to the big day, yes just like a child. Have a bath, read a book and sleep at least 8- 10 hours a night. This will ensure you are looking and feeling your best on the big day.

20. Do Enjoy Yourself
You will be the centre of attention for the entire day, which also means the centre of a lot of different cameras’ attentions. If you are enjoying your day, you will look absolutely beautiful! It is too late by this point to change anything or do anything….so smile, relax and get married.

When thinking about bridal make up, the keywords are natural, subtle, elegant and pretty. Red lipstick isn’t a first choice for a white wedding for the fear of looking overdone and vampy, however red lipstick is such a gorgeous way of creating a bridal look and can easily be used for a natural elegant look and any good bridal make up artist can do this for you.

Red lipstick is very vintage and 1920’s but we’re all about living past eras, especially in fashion and beauty, because well..

IMG_5773.JPG
Enough said.

Choosing a red lipstick that suits your skin tone is imperative. Here a few pointers in choosing the right shade.

Firstly there are different types of skin, cool and warm. Warm skin has yellow and golden undertones, whereas cool skin has pink and blue undertones. The quickest way to figure it out? Look at the veins on your inner wrist in natural light: if they look green you have warm skin, and if they look blue, you have cool skin.

Warm Skin Tones
For warm complexions use orangey reds, tomato reds, reds with a golden base or tawny reds

Cool Skin Tones
For cool complexions use pink reds, berry reds, reds with a blue undertone like plums

For all skin tones a REAL red would work- think post box red.

Now that we have skin tones covered we move to skin colours..

Porcelain Skin
Cool undertoned reds generally speaking look the best with this type of skin, however for a statement look use a warm red.

Fair Skin
Fair skin in general should use a cooler red, hints of plum work wonders. Again using a warm red creates a bold look.

Bisque Skin
This warm skinned colour suits a cooler look, think light berry to create your look.

Beige Skin
Yellow undertones in this skin prefer a warm red , golden undertoned to set off the colour in your skin. A cool red in this case add drama.

Olive Skin
A warm red with a green or brown undertone look amazing with olive skin, think autumn reds and you have your perfect match.

Tawny Skin
A warm brown red is more suited to you than a berry gold red, but with this skin a cool colour can sometimes create more of a match. For tawny skin I would suggest trialling a few and then taking photos. The photos will tell you which suits you.

Caramel Skin
Orange reds are PERFECT for caramel skin, probably the only skin colour to REALLY be able to carry an orange undertoned red.

Dark Skin
Go deep! go for a deep dark maroon, these colours suit without looking scary (as they would on a fairer skin colour.

I will leave you with some of my favourite red lip looks..

Zuhair Murad!

Zuhair Murad is one of my favourite designers and one of my biggest inspirations as a bridal designer. He creates this amazing East-West fusion in gowns; the same foundation that underpins my own designs, within his bridal wear, Haute couture and ready to wear collections. His Lebanese foundation mixed with his fantasy sketching has led him to be one of the most talented designers today.

Haute Couture

I love his haute couture because this is what we are drawn towards when deciding outfits for our receptions. This is where we can wear the most gorgeous Indian – Western fusion gown known to man!

New Picture (1)

This Chiffon high neck makes the perfect reception gown – the beading is a very Eastern style of beading found on sarees and lenghas. Chiffon is a very classy and bridal fabric which makes an appearance in a lot of ZM collections. (Good choice!)

Using the most amazing fabrics and silhouettes he has created a fantasy land with embroidery and embellishment fit for a princess! Here are a few of my favourites from his AW14 collection

With saree gowns coming into their own this year and only growing as a trend into next, these kind of dresses are to arrive on the horizon in multitudes! And I cannot wait!

Leaving you all with some of my favourite images from ZM collections to date….enjoy!

To be on Trend – Fall ’14 Part 2

And for part two only the BEST colour – PINK! No..HOT Pink!!!

IMG_5449-4.JPG

This is one of the easiest colours to be able to wear within your bridal attire – not only is it gorgeous, but the colour is so complimentary to Red, Green and Cream it could almost just replace the Red.

Here are a few of my favourites..IMG_5501.JPG

This is gorgeous because, although the main colour is pink, the highlights of red make it an amazing alternative for a bridal outfit.

IMG_5495

Not your traditional conventional bridal attire, but how AMAZING! the velvet and the flower veins have a Snow White-esque feel and with a slight tweaking of colour – you could be the trendiest Disney bride ever!

IMG_5510

This beautiful hot pink and gold brocade lengha would be ideal. Perhaps changing the Dupatta colour to have a gold/ cream base or adding a cream border, would make this more bridal and more traditional. But if you love the pink…you go for it!

IMG_5500

This is a Pagli creation which is simply stunning. Simple enough to carry the hot pink, yet heavy enough to be considered bridal. Your secondary dupatta would need to be Cream/ Gold to be able to carry this.

photo 1

I am absolutely in love with this! The pink has a blue undertone to it which I think makes me love it more! Perfectly simple, perfectly bridal! IF you wanted to feel that little bit more special – throwing some rhinestones and jewels on to it would achieve that! (You can never have too many jewels right?!)

IMG_5497

This stunner is a Manish Malhotra  (as if it weren’t obvious). I am in love with the metallics on this outfit! such a nice replacement for gems and jewels. I don’t think I need to say anymore…

IMG_5494

I found this photo on Pinterest (yes I am obsessed with Pinterest) and couldn’t get over how gorgeous this design was. The Red features as the main bridal highlight however the pink borders make this style that little more pretty and that little more on trend! I just wish I knew the designer of it!

IMG_5507

This is a beautiful lengha to wear if you are going all out for colour – perhaps on a mehndi night or a sangeet. Adding a tulle underlay would make this that little bit more bridal.

IMG_5496

This is one of my favourites…Pink, Gold, cream AND jewels…how can you go wrong?! The fishtail style of skirt makes this that little bit more glam.  I would personally shorten the blouse so as not to cover the gorgeous skirt waist detail. Everything about this outfit screams yes!

To conclude our journey to the land of PINK, here is an outfit mixing a couple of the jewelled tones together: Mendhi night you say?

10 Gorgeous Veils

Ok so she loves more than 10 veils…but some are of the same ilk…so really it balances out!

I thought that following the news regarding Angelina Jolie’s (or is it Pitt’s now) veil, containing embroidered designs inspired by her children’s doodles, it would be apt to write a post on veils. She literally let her kids draw on her veil.

That she wore to her wedding.

Her ONE wedding.

(well not literally, a designer embroidered them on an amazing lace for her…but still).

angelina-jolie-wedding-dress-441x400

Yes…she did that…

funny-bride

Now I am sure I will love my offspring….but there is not a chance in hell they would allowed to scribble on any part of my wedding.

In the many dreams I have about weddings (no really…you’d be surprised) I am always wearing different veils. Ranging from one gooorgeous Cathedral veil to maybe 3 or 4 different veils. (again, not kidding. I have a problem…no, there is no name for it yet).

I find it fascinating that we, as Asian brides, go as far as wearing an amazing fusion dress for our civil ceremonies, but a veil is seldom worn! They’re SO PRETTY and so much fun!! You can play hide and seek with them , you can pass them on to your children, you can use them as tablecloths (not that I ever would), you can take cheesy photos with them…the opportunities are just endless!

So here goes….my 10 most recent favourite veils. (Pics are click- through…so click through!)

Veil number 1- Simplicity is key

Veil with bow - colin cowie weddings

This gorgeous tulle veil, with a very simple bow and gem would be a gorgeous addition to any dress. The maker of this exact veil has closed up shop, however any dressmaker could do this for you, just print out the pic.

Veil Number 2 – All Over

 anna campbell

This charming all over bobble veil is created by Anna Campbell. She is an amazing Australian designer who uses beads, pearls, tulles and lace to create gorgeous pieces – this being exactly that.

Veil number 3 – Embroidered

Pronovias

I am always partial to a bit of embroidery and embellishment, and this Pronovias creation is no exception..the stunning floral design and the placement starting just under the cheekbone makes this veil flattering and GORGEOUS!

Veil number 4 – Vintage Treasure

vintage victorian treasure

The name says it all. This vintage piece is an authentic Victorian HANDMADE (I KNOW!) delight. From around 1860’s and would probably retail at around £3000..not cheap. However, easily made today with new inventions, like machines, and computers for probably a sixteenth of the price. Drool away.

Veil Number 5 (and 6 – but not really 6) – Embellished

etsy embellished2 etsy embellished

These Etsy finds are my favourite type of veils, they are the ones I see myself wearing. The perfect fusion of Indian on tulle! (in the process of designing my own versions of these so watch this space!)

Veil Number 6 – Floral

I am in love with this stylemepretty veil…….3D flowers attached to your head?! I mean who wouldn’t! Really simple, really compliments the dress, but more than this it looks fun and pretty! Win for flowers!

stylemepretty

…it helps that the bride is drop dead gorgeous….sigh.

Veil Number 7- Indian

indian

Now this is actually just a saree draped over somebody’s head…(I know I had you fooled for a minute), however the idea behind this is going back to the whole fusion wedding. Imagine you are wearing your white dress (or any other colour for that matter) and you have found a serious dupatta, that matches perfectly, but it just needs to not be so heavy! Get this turned into a shoulder drop veil! So simple and so gorgeous! (IIII KNOW! Possibilities are endless with us Asians!)

Veil Number 8 – All Over Placement Embroidery

Twigs and Honey

This veil has placement embroidery all around the hem circ which would look amazing on a plain dress. Simple, elegant and really pretty! This was a Twigs and Honey find on Etsy…they have gorgeous accessories to go with your beautiful day.

Veil Number 9 – Bordered (No. Not Bored.)

hayley-paige-f13-63582c_detail

This absolutely blew my mind. The simplicity involved in creating this veil; a double turned hem or a sheer organza border. That’s it! Such an impactful piece and so so so pretty! Hayley Paige has some absolutely gorgeous pieces, simple and elegant.

Veil Number 10 – The Blusher

In my opinion, getting a blusher veil right is quite a task. There is usually too much embroidery for the length or absolutely nothing, I hadn’t come across any that made me think yessss…..until now..

il_570xN.433647842_ss9v

This gorgeous little Etsy shop has found the perfect mix! It is so CUTE! (personally not my style, because I don’t suit cute, but still beautiful!)

aaaand one for good luck

Veil Number 11 – Placed Lace

urbanveils cotoure

This UrbanVeilsCouture find is incredible. I was always under the impression that you couldn’t have embroidery over the top of your head – that it would look slightly weird, however I had to eat my words when I stumbled upon this little Etsy number (yes Etsy really is the place to be).

Literally can’t help myself…seriously its like asking a kid to stop eating chocolate when there is nobody to supervise…

LASTLY…Veil Number 12 – JEWELS

the lace butterflies

You guessed it…ETSY; Thelacebutterflies. Seriously just wow. Imagine the sparkles!!! Amazing price, amazing handwriting….just gorgeous, not a lot else to say on this…they say a picture speaks a thousand words, and that is EXACTLY what is happening here!

aaaaaaand……..

just kidding (bad joke I know)

That concludes my top 10 veils (for this week anyway)….hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I did writing it!! Happy Veiling!

White Weddings

I am absolutely crazed about white weddings; the gorgeous ivory dress, the bouquet of flowers, the veil, the headpiece, the flower girls/boys…I could go on..(but I won’t)

IMG_5106-0.JPG

IMG_5278.JPG

IMG_5282-0.JPG
Since I was little I have been collecting images, fabrics, colours, prints and more to be able to create my dream wedding. As I grew up I was under the impression that, as a Hindu, we don’t really do the whole church/ castle thing. It is a simple signing of a book to register your marriage legally.

As I grew up a little more and studied fashion and got more into my bridal design and got a job in fashion buying.
At this point the only thing going through my mind was

screw tradition I am definitely having my fairytale wedding

IMG_5286.JPG
(too much?)

As a second generation Indian (born in the U.K. with Indian heritage) I realised how lucky we are to be able to have a huge mix of different cultures in our weddings!

Different types of Indian events available to us:
Sangeet night
Mehndi night
Raas and Garba evening
Vidhi
Indian ceremony

They’re the most popular Indian events, and the British cultured events available to us are:
Civil ceremony
Reception
Post wedding brunch
Rehearsal dinner

How freakin’ awesome! We can have about 10 different events just because we live in Britain!!! Of course not many people have a ten event wedding…

So going back to this white wedding, some of the recent collections have been phenomenal! I’ll leave you with a few inspirational images that I love, for your big day!
