Avoid Hidden Wedding Costs & Stick To Your Budget

Budget; the pesky word that threatens to ruin your plans of flying into your wedding in a helicopter, dressed in gold threads. There are so many parts of planning a wedding that most brides do not consider when planning their budget. Don’t end up paying more than you intend to with this little reminder…enjoy!

1.  Working Out

If you are planning on joining the gym; upping your yoga time or hiring a personal trainer, stick it in your wedding budget, because it alll eats into money for your wedding. Even if eating healthier is your plan for pre-wedding dieting, green foods now cost more than frozen chips, so make sure its all accounted for

2. Wedding Flowers

Every bride has their perfect choice of flowers for their wedding, however depending upon their natural season you could end up paying out of your *** for them! Take Calla Lillies (my personal favourite), if your wedding is between March and July – perfect! If your wedding is between August and September you end up paying almost double for them as they are nearing the end of their natural season. Want them between October and March? Better start selling some organs. A slightly dramatic example but the point still stands!

3. Stamps

Who puts postage into their budgets!? Save the dates, invites, thank you cards..that’s a whole lot of stamps! Ranging anywhere between 50p to £5 or even more! (you’ve seen those kankotris..you know what I mean) I’d sneak this badboy into your budget planning.

4. Dress Alterations

These do not usually come with the dress, and with all the dieting you plan on paying for, you’ll need to consider this.

5. Hair & Make-up

I’m not even talking about the bride’s hair and make-up. Are you planning to pay for your Bridesmaids’, Mother’s, Mother in law’s, sister’s, sister in law’s hair and make-up too? I have seen too many brides overlook this part when planning their beauty budget.

6. Venues & Vendors

Most venues have a recommended or pre-approved vendor list. Moving away from this list could see an extra 20% onto your bill. Do your research.

7. Hotel Rooms and Dinner

Are you planning on renting out a hotel room the night before? Some brides tend to forget to include this into their budget but almost all brides tend to forget to include dinner for their party into the budget (assuming you all want to eat the night before).

8. Other Beauty Bits

Your hair colouring, your nails, your waxing, your facial…the list goes on. These also add up!

9. Favours

Wedding favours are very cute, however they also cost a little. ‘its only one pound’..400 people at an Indian wedding..you do the Maths.

10. Add your Vendors in for Meals

When doing your headcount, find out how many people your photographer, your DJ, your make up artist etc are bringing..they’ll all expect to be fed (and rightly so)

11. Cake Cutting

Caterers actually charge extra to cut and box the cake for you, find out this charge first!

12. Unexpected Guests

As we allllll know, the people who said no will come or ‘swap in’ someone to attend for them. People have gotten engaged and bring their other halves. The neighbour’s neighbour heard where you were getting married and just thought their invite was lost in the post..add in a few plates for these lovely guests (They may even give you a wedding present! Always a silver lining)

13. Welcome Packages

Are you expecting out of towners? A welcome package in their room is customary, but also pricey! Let’s say a minimum £20 for one package…

14. Extras

Always put aside some cash for things you forget. If the groom forgets their socks and you forget your shoes, somebody can nip out quickly and buy you some…but it still costs!

15. Don’t Forget The Bride And Groom!

Remember to count yourselves into every headcount! I have seen and heard of too many couples who don’t actually include themselves into things and end up about £200 or more out of pocket! You need chairs, food, cutlery, glasses, drinks etc too! It is your wedding after all!!

Avoid sneaky little costs and enjoy your big day!
